La Petite Maison - Local Activities

Our general setting is very rural and as such the Dordogne countryside is available pretty much from the front door of the cottage.

The immediate vicinity offers scope for self-guided walks and rambles amongst the quiet country lanes and undulating lands of the surrounding, mainly, agricultural area.

Sight seeing - 'La Dordogne' is only some six kilometers away and the popular tourist attraction centers of Sarlat, Beynac, Domme, Rocamadour and the other river valleys of the Lot and the Vezere are within easy reach, all within a drive of some 30 to 60 minutes. There are numerous cave sites to visit and other attractions associated with prehistoric man's love of this area. The countryside is full of chateaus of various ages and characters that can be visited to experience their structure and architecture as well as to discover their family histories.

Canoes - along the length of the Dordogne river there are many sites for day hire of canoes to take a trip out on the water. You take a canoe from one location, decide how long you want to be out - you can stop as often and for as long as you want - and arrangements are made for you to be picked up and brought back to your point of departure. It's a great way to get a different view of the chateaus, villages and cliffs along the river and can reveal some surprising wildlife and natural features along the way. Not a lot of effort involved either, the flow of the river does most of the work. A recommended day out, especially with a pick-nick and a bottle of wine!

Horse riding - there are a number of places for day hire of horses near-by where you can follow various trails through the countryside.

Golf - there are two course within a 45 minute drive of the cottage. Souillac Country Club offers an 18 hole course at the top of a hill with wonderful views across the Dordogne valley and surrounding area. The club also has other activities, including driving range, tennis courts, a large pool, bar and restaurant. The Domaine de Rochebois has a 9 hole course - organized with multiple tees to make up a pseudo 18 hole course - running alongside the river Dordogne. A spectacular setting and a watery trap for anyone that tends to let the ball drift off to the right! The site also has a practice area, club house and restaurants.

Walking - you can set out from the door of the cottage and have numerous options for walking for as long as you want. With a short drive you can get access to a wide range of valley and gorge walks along the various near-by rivers or take to the hills - nothing too steep - and experience views across the surrounding areas. A system of marked routes is used and there are various guide books available with listed walks and detailed instructions.
